Moving Houses

Just finished moving houses. Yes, into my own house (finally!). And I dont think any experience has been more frustrating & more satisfying at the same time.

I am not sure you understand the conflicting emotions. In case you dont, I would suggest you buy your own house & then move...cause that's the only way you will get what I am trying to say.

SIGH! Almost done. The reason for the "almost" is that it's never really over till it's over. I have been in the new place for close to a week now & I still cannot find my scissor! Most of the medicines are in place, so we're ready for an emergency. But apart from that, almost everything involves a 15 minute search. That's just one reason for the frustration.

Then there are the packers. Thankfully, this lot did a fabulous job & packed stuff so well, I should not have bothered. But still, my heart was in my mouth the whole day as my 100kg Sony Wega TV was being shipped (I can hear all the women scream "Typical male, worried only about his TV set, but then that's reality especially when your TV weighs a 100 kilos).

And then there was the unpacking. AARGH! 5 days of just opening & emptying boxes. Putting things up, making sure we dont drop anything on our four year old, successfully wading through the piles to the dinner table for a quiet meal using paper plates & styrofoam cups.

Now for the satisfying bit. The pride when all the stuff goes into its place, the place clears up. All the light fittings work. The plumbing doesn't trouble you. Everthing is in place. SIGH!

Other than the feeling of becoming a father (do all the women forgive me for my earlier TV fascination?) & falling in love (forgiven again?), this is the best feeling I have had in my life.

My own house. Feels good to say it, feels good to write it. It's a wonderful feeling to go back home from work & walk into your own living room. Aaaah!

What makes it even better is that we started the new year in our own house.

But it's still not in the shape where I can start inviting my friends over for dinner. The garden is yet to come up the way I want. Some of the furniture I've ordered has not arrived yet. So let's see how the house shapes up. Maybe I'll post pictures of my house here someday. Just maybe.
